Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an unforgettable RPG that blends striking art direction, a gripping story, and refined gameplay into something truly special. From start to finish, I was completely drawn in by the game’s richly detailed world and emotionally resonant narrative.

The characters are easily one of the highlights. Each member of the cast feels distinct and meaningful, thanks in large part to excellent writing and absolutely stellar voice acting. Their personalities come to life not just through dialogue, but through beautifully fluid animations that made every scene feel cinematic and heartfelt.

Combat is another area where Expedition 33 shines. The battles are fast-paced and reactive, with a satisfying dodging system that gave me serious Elden Ring vibes. It’s not just about selecting the right abilities — timing and positioning matter, which adds a welcome layer of skill to every encounter.

The game’s French-inspired setting gives it a unique atmosphere rarely seen in the genre. It’s not just surface-level style either — the theme runs deep through the architecture, music, language, and tone. Speaking of which, the soundtrack is very, very good. Whether it’s a tense combat track or a quiet moment of reflection, the music always feels perfectly in tune with what’s happening on screen.

If I had one complaint, it’s that the environments — while gorgeous — sometimes made it easy to lose your sense of direction, especially after larger battles. A bit more visual guidance or better environmental cues would have helped with navigation.

Still, that’s a small issue in an otherwise phenomenal game. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a bold, beautiful experience that stands out in the RPG landscape. If you’re looking for a game with deep storytelling, excellent characters, and engaging combat, this is one you shouldn’t miss.
