Alto’s Odyssey is a beautiful follow-up to Alto’s Adventure, delivering the same serene endless-runner experience with a fresh desert setting. While it doesn’t reinvent the formula, it refines it in ways that make the journey well worth taking.
One of the highlights for me was the new additions to gameplay—especially the balloons. They add a fun vertical element and change how you approach combos and movement. The environmental variety, like sandstorms and water features, also helps keep runs visually and mechanically engaging. That said, I couldn’t help but wish the developers had gone further. More new characters, or more dramatic gameplay shifts, would have made the sequel feel bolder. As it stands, it feels a bit too similar to Alto’s Adventure, sometimes more like an expansion than a full evolution.
I also ran into a few bugs during my time with the game. Nothing completely game-breaking, but enough to be noticeable and occasionally disrupt the flow. In a game that thrives on smoothness and immersion, even small hiccups stand out.
Despite those criticisms, Alto’s Odyssey is absolutely stunning. The art direction is breathtaking, the dynamic lighting is gorgeous, and the soundtrack perfectly complements the calm, meditative tone. Few mobile games capture atmosphere this well. It’s relaxing, satisfying, and easy to lose yourself in for long stretches.
Overall, while it may play it a bit safe and could have expanded further on its ideas, Alto’s Odyssey is still a fantastic experience and well worth playing—especially if you loved the original.
